2 types of Righteousness
The word ‘righteousness’ derived from the root word ‘right’, also means to be ‘just’. The Bible says in Romans 10:3, “For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.” There are two types of righteousness mentioned in this verse – God’s righteousness and Man’s righteousness. The righteousness of man (also called self-righteousness) causes people to do their own deeds in order to make themselves right with God. But Isaiah 64:6 says, “For all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; and all of us wither like a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.” Since there is none righteous, not even one (Romans 3:10), let us pursue the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe (Romans 3:22), so that the righteous man shall live by faith (Romans 1:17).
