“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly… according to the power that works within us.” Ephesians 3:20
Word of God has the power to work within us in all generations. 500 years ago, on October 31st 1517, the Protestant Reformation began when Martin Luther posted the “95 Theses” on a door of a church in Wittenberg, Germany, with concern that the true teachings of the Word of God had been hidden for centuries by traditions.
The “5 solas” of the Protestant Reformation offered a strong corrective to the faulty practices and beliefs of the time, and they remain relevant today:
– Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone),
– Sola Fide (faith alone),
– Sola Gratia (grace alone),
– Solus Christus (Christ alone),
– Soli Deo Gloria (to the glory of God alone).
We are called to focus ‘solely’ on Scripture, accept salvation by grace through faith, magnify Christ, and live for God’s glory. Today we commemorate 500 years of that Reformation Day, and thank God for the power of His Word that works within us.
