Light of salvation
I have placed you as a light for the gentiles. Acts 13:47
Both Old and New Testaments speak of God’s people being “light to the Gentiles”. Isaiah used that phrase twice, in Isaiah 42:6 and 49:6. Paul quotes this phrase in his first sermon during his first missionary journey. We also meditated in Philippians 2:15 that believers are to shine as lighthouses in the world. Just as a lighthouse warns of danger, directs to safe harbor and provides hope to those who have lost hope, we should be like beacons of light to the people in darkness and show them the way to Jesus, the only true Light.
Jesus’ great commission exhorts us to take the light of salvation to today’s “Gentiles,” those who have yet to see the light. Will we do it? Well, we have this wonderful opportunity during this Christmas season to reach out to our colleagues, communities and counties to herald the good news of Jesus Christ.
